Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

Two Students That Never Lived FOUND on Facebook!

We just got an anonymous tip that two students who NEVER lived are now on Facebook!  (They left messages on the official PU Main and Alumni Facebook Pages!)

Ephraim di Kahble '38 and Joseph Oznot '68 have full on profiles!  We keep asking to be their Friend but, sadly, they're only taking real Tigers.  (Either that or they're not living to make Facebook updates.)

Wanna know how the students got him admitted?

Like that?  You'll LOVE his business partners after he left Princeton:

  • William I. Peinot (for "Bill I Pay Not");
  • Franz O. Kuchen (every international financial firm has to have at least one Swiss member);
  • Ismella D. Rose (as in "I smella de rose");
  • Jerome N. Suis-Personne (a Frenchman, short for "Je ne suis personne," or "I am nobody");
  • Lawrence D. Humphrey (a good English name with no ulterior meaning); and
  • Paul I. Niemand (German, short for "Paul ist Niemand," or "Paul is no one")

Need proof?  No problem:

Anyhoo, they sound like our kind of Friends on Facebook!

The Song I Shot the Sherriff Hit #1 Today .... Is There A Connect to Princeton? Well, You'll Just Have to See for Yourself!

(There's no connection with the song ..... even Firestone Library didn't have a collection hidden somewhere which is our normal excuse for 7 degrees .......... STILL we found SOMETHING to keep you in the know .....)

Back in the 1800's, Princeton had a sherriff named Ludlow ..... He was TOUGH on criminals!

(And, ahead of his time when it came to crime prevention ....)

If you've taken our ghost tour, you know about what happened to Antoine Le Blanc's body in Princeton.  It was Sherriff Ludlow who authenticated the wallets made of out of his skin ....

EWWWWW!  ALL TRUE!

THAT is nasty!

Princeton University Had a Mandatory Swimming Test Until 1990? (yep!)

It's TRUE!

From 1911 until 1990 there was a policy that all Princeton University students had to pass a swimming test prior to graduation!

(Legend prevails that it was instituted in 1911 by a wealthy alumnus after his son drowned.   That's actually not true but it's a great story to tell!)

There's a big canon on Princeton University campus.

In 1840, it was returned to Princeton University campus by a student.

The grandson of this student would have shopped at what Princeton storefront?
