Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

It's Lawn Parties At Princeton! The Final Resting Place of the Last Train Robbery in America!

On the Friday afternoon of Houseparties in 1963, Tiger desperadoes swung into action to pull off the last train robbery in America!

A car was parked across the Dinky line,

Four horses were rented from a nearby stable .....

Masks and six-shooters acquired ......

“Victims” prepared ......

The Great Train Robbery went off like clockwork, with four students riding out of a John Wayne film to hold up the blocked Dinky train on its way to campus!

They fired a couple blanks,

“Kidnapped” four dates and then

(after politely refusing the wallets and gold jewelry offered by clueless commuters)

Galloped into the woods, the eight men and women hanging onto the horses for dear life.

The conductor arrived at Princeton station with the honor of being the victim of the only railway holdup in the United States since 1923!

The pranksters rode over to Cap and Gown in full regalia, stopping by Bo Diddley’s live set on the front lawn.

Thence they rode west, into the sunset and the mists of legend.

SPOILER ALERT! The REAL Don Draper went to Princeton University!

Everyone knows the cigarettes on set aren't real and the "brown" booze is apple juice or iced tea but few know the REAL Don Draper of advertising graduated from Princeton University .... !  Check this out:

In 1924, Princeton University graduate, Gerard Barnes Lambert,  launched a series of advertisements with the slogan “Often a bridesmaid, never a bride” to help boost sales of Listerine!

The advertisements insinuated a forlorn woman who seemed to have it all suffered from BAD BREATH which kept her from landing a man.

This line of dramatic advertising sold millions of bottles of mouthwash increasing the company’s sales from $100,000 in 1921 to over $4,000,000 in 1927.

(He was known to say we don't sell words and products .... we sell LIFE!!)

You gotta admit, if Gerard wasn't the inspiration for Don, he should have been!  They would have respected each other for sure!

If you really want to be convinced, read about Gerard here.  This 'lil Tiger invented Draper style advertising!:

LOOK HERE TO SEE HOW I DEFEATED SUSAN FRANCIA - A TWO TIME OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST!

In 2011, I WON AN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL IN A SPONTANEOUS ARM WRESTLING COMPETITION!

Winning the Olympic Gold wasn’t that tough for me .... my secret?  Tickling the competition, silly!

Anyhoo,

You can see here, the real Olympic athlete handled the defeat like a complete pro!

Here's how I won my first gold in 2011:

I went to Godfrey Fitzgerald Hair Salon for my grooming session.

Y’all know, my groomings at Godfrey’s never fail to disappoint:

In the chair beside me was Susan Francia.  The 2008 Women’s Rowing Olympic Gold Winner!  I KNOW!

After I played it WAY COOL (and pretended not to listen in on her every word) it became clear that Susan Francia is, well, WAY COOL!

Here’s why I think Susan Francia is WAY COOL:

She seemed thrilled she won the Gold Medal ….

She’s funny ….. like quick funny, not just funny-funny

She’s smart ….. like street smart, not just book smart

She’s gorgeous ….. SO GORGEOUS SHE POSED NUDE and in between the shots she didn’t wear the robe.

I take my shower IN my robe for God’s sakes!

AND

You didn’t hear this from me but it’s true,

She confessed to eating 5,000 calories in a single day.

You’re not drunk …. You read that right,

She confessed to eating 5,000 calories in a single day.

One more thing ..... wait for it ..... it's worth it ....

She proudly states she is the great grandaughter of Woodrow "Woody" Wilson!  I KNOW!  Just when you thought the tour lady couldn't get luckier!

(Our full time group of researchers couldn't confirm or deny the geneology on that but she's a Gold Medalist for God's sakes, we're taking her word for it!)

File Under Princeton Graduates ADORE Their Alma Mater!

Remember the advertising tagline “Put a Tiger in Your Tank”?

Did you know it was REALLY a tribute to Princeton University?  TRUE!

John Gaston (Class of ’39) worked for the advertising company who was hired to come up with a catchy phrase for Esso Gas Stations.  John was OBSESSED with his beloved alma mater.  He used the marketing opportunity to put tiger tails all over the map!   Even non-graduates had tiger tails hanging out of their windows.

(My Mom SWEARS I met my paternal grandmother with a Tiger Tail on my backside!  The gas stations gave the tails out for free.  Clearly, my mother was too young to be having babies but that's another blog post .....)

Anyhoo, John also had a 22 ft cat-boat that he sailed in his retirement; its name was Tiger II

(Our extensive research to connect Tony the Tiger to Princeton University is incomplete at this time …… updates will be provided to Anderson Cooper …….)
