Princeton WannaBe Blog
I'm not a real historian. I didn't grow up in Princeton. I don't have an Ivy League education.
I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.
Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!
THIS JUST IN! Christmas Morning for Tour Guides Isn't Normal :

Pictured here is my sweetie Steve.
(Santa brought me a Mind Machine to UP my understanding of paranormal activities. Here he is trying it out for the first time!)
Here's an e:mail from a tourguide Bill Stephenson:
"A couple of weeks ago, I sent you a review of a book on the life of Robert Morris.I'm about 25% of the way through it, and it is a page turner. Best in depth description of before, during, and after the revolutionary war, I have ever read. Stockton was a patriot, signer, and member of congress, but it was Robert Morris who financed the revolution. Illegitimate son of immigrant from the UK.
He goes on to say:
Hugely successful global merchant prior to the war. Opposed the war, up until the very last vote in Penna. Yet, was responsible for getting gun powder and armamants smuggled into America through West Indies, and New Orleans, prior to the outbreak of hostilities. Brokered a deal with France to smuggle arms to America, in retaliation for French humiliation of defeat by British in 7 year war. (Louis XVI spent France into bankruptcy aiding America, and opened the door for the French revolution that followed.)
Congress deserted Phila and fled to Baltimore, before battle Princeton, when it looked like British would march across the ice to take Phila. City was almost comletely deserted. Morris, alone stayed in Phila, and ran the government.
He secured what Washington needed to keep from losing all that remained of his army in Dec '66. Blankets, medicine, gun powder, and gold pieces to get reenlistments of troops. After the war, he kept making deals to try to rebuild his fortune, and ultimately took too many risks. Ultimately went broke, was sent to debtors prison at age 63, and died there.
An incredible story, that we don't have time for on tours, but one that seems largely unknown. Outside of Washington, probably had more to do with success of revolution, than anyone else. Could be argued that he was more significant than Washington, because Washington would have clearly failed, without Morris."
If you're strangely possessed by Princeton and learning the real deal on history, we might be your brand of cRaZy!

(This was one of my favorite gifts! LOVE IT!)
