Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

Famous Family Moves to the Heart of Princeton!

Yesterday, a home in Princeton was purchased by an ASTOUNDING family!

What makes them famous?

They have Chester, silly!  One of the most famous dogs in Princeton!

I KNOW!

He's like a poodle version of Toto in the Wizard of Oz!  Everyone in town cannot resist Chester!

True or False: The Wicked Witch of the West lived in Princeton?

TRUE!

Margaret Hamilton lived in Princeton!

(Dan Bauer, one of our tour guides, actually met her when he was a young man in highschool!  On his trolley tour, he points out her house.  If you know Dan, you KNOW he has a signature laugh too!  I KNOW!)

Did you know she agreed to be a pen pal to a second grader for an entire year?

Did you know she fed hungry actors when she lived in NYC?

Did you know many residents in town claim she was the kindest woman to ever live?

TRUE!

On the trolley tour, we're able to roll through the neighborhoods of many famous residents including Presidents, Vice Presidents, statesmen, inventors, millionaires, and  the REAL Nancy Drew and the REAL Indiana Jones!  TRUE!

On the tour we'll tell you how she "melted" and how they made her fly!

I KNOW!

WE'RE BRINGING HOLIDAY TROLLEY TOURS TO PRINCETON!

Starting this Saturday, November 26 at 11:00am, we'll be boarding a darling Trolley and offering one hour trolley rides through the most gorgeous neighborhoods in Princeton.  Along the way, guests will learn the dynamic history of Princeton, NJ and world famous University.   Trolley rides will be available each Saturday until December 31, 2011.

We're proud to be rated the #1 Attraction on TripAdvisor, AAA Magazine and NY Times.  We hope our trolley rides will become an annual treat for residents and visitors!

(Tickets will be sold online until Friday.  On Saturdays, remaining tickets will be sold onsite at the trolley.)

Everyone knows there used to be a Trolley in Princeton but do you know WHY so many residents used it twice a year?  We'll tell you on the trolley!

How weird is this?

Today is the anniversary of the first publication of Life Magazine.  TRUE!

Did you know the father of the publisher graduated from Princeton in 1896?  When his son, Henry Luce, published Life Magazine, he wanted Americans "to see and be amazed; to see and be instructed... to see differently".   That's EXACTLY what Shelly, Dan and I want for our customers on the Holiday Trolley Tours!

Did you know the #1 Online Matchmaker on the Planet lived in Princeton? TRUE!

That's right, Neil Clark Warren, the founder of eHarmony graduated from the Princeton Theological School!  I KNOW!

(We always mention that on the tours and wouldn't you know this charming couple actually met on eHarmony!  I KNOW!)

Many visitors have never heard of the Princeton Theological School but after our tours, they know the Seminary is WHY Princeton is now a world class destination town!

Clearly, this couple is like us ..... they DIG love stories!

(This lovely lady went online and planned the perfect birthday weekend in Princeton.  A spa visit to Onsen, a tour with us, a walk through the Art Museum, dinner in Palmer Square, ice cream from bent spoon, a quick browse through PREX and coffee at small world ..... clearly, she's a keeper!)

Think Princeton is FULL of a Bunch of Smart Alexes?

TRUE!

This year the world premiere of the Triangle Show includes 5 performers all named Alex!  How cool is that?

The Five Alexes of Princeton Triangle Club (l-r) Alex Craig ’12,  Alex Pimentel ’14, Alex Mannix ’12, Alex Kasdin’14 and Alex Morton ’15.

Where can you see FIVE PEOPLE NAMED ALEX WHO WERE ALL SMART ENOUGH TO GET INTO THE WORLD'S GREATEST UNIVERSITY?

Triangle show Doomsday of Our Lives…Hindsight is 2012!

This is the all-student written and performed musical comedy I rave about on every tour.  (Yes, this is the one F. Scott ADORED!)

Anyhoo, the world premiere on the McCarter Theatre stage this Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, at 8pm.

For tickets, call (609) 258-2787 or online at www.mccarter.org.

30 Seconds Inside the Mind of This Princeton Wannabe ....

Most people know about the Princeton Borough elections yesterday ...

but many did NOT know that the Nir Barkat, mayor of Jeruselum, was presenting at the Woodrow Wilson school at the SAME TIME
the political boundries of Princeton were being voted on by our residents!

I KNOW!

Emily Mann Knows My Name! Emily Mann Knows My Name!

Here I am with THE Emily Mann ....

(She's the Artistic Director of McCarter Theatre ..... I KNOW!)

She's a fan of BOLD programming, BOLD young playwrights and, you can see here, BOLD personalities like mine!

Yes, this is the first time she ever met me and look how sweet she looks in spite of  my semi- stalker ways.

I got invited to an Artistic Tea and sat with some AWESOME Princeton Greats who taught me more about McCarter Theatre and Princeton!

(The guests taught me that many of the homes around Carnegie Lake were the summer homes of Princeton University professors?  TRUE!  They would leave their homes close to the University and live in little cottages along the lake!)

OMG! Scientific PROOF We're NOT Alone in Princeton!

My NEW iPad M2 Ghost Hunter download is AWESOME!

I was in small world coffee early this morning and don't kid yourself, that place is as popular for folks on the other side!

The EMF needle moved all over the place as I asked questions as to whether or not the entities were alumni, residents or faculty.

When I changed it to detect voice vibrations, it went crazy and I could literally find pockets of empty chairs but the EVR was indicating TONS of chatter!

Our ghost tours are about to go to sleep for the winter so if you haven't gone on one, you wanna book NOW for the 12th or 19th of November.

These are not jump out and scare you events.

These are not 100% story telling.

These are not 100% spouting historical facts.

But these are 100% fun!

These are designed for folks that want a gorgeous walk through campus hearing testimonials of unexplained activity on Princeton University campus and surrounding neighborhoods.  We even let you use energy detecting equipment on an unmarked burial ground!  After the ghostly stuff, history buffs take over and take you to see the gravestones of American patriots, scientists and philanthropists inside Princeton Cemetery.

$20 Per Person

(Folks who have passed over to the other side are welcome to join our walks for free!)

My Letter of Support for Jill Jachera to Every Editor On the Planet:

I support Jill Jachera for Princeton Borough Mayor.

Throughout the campaign, Jill has been clear about her positions on important public issues.

She made herself available for every public forum.

She met with neighbors weekly at small world coffee, welcoming anyone who had a question, comment or concern.

Jill met with community leaders – Democrats and Republicans – to hear their concerns and to share hers.

She has been available to the press, so people who were unable to meet her in person could understand her views and perspectives.

She has conducted her campaign with transparency, integrity and grace.

Whatever the outcome of the consolidation vote, Princeton Borough faces a number of complex challenges.  Jill’s open and accessible leadership, her clear and articulate communications style, and her willingness to actively seek different points of view and perspectives make Jill Jachera the best candidate to lead the Borough through the next chapter of its long and storied history.

I’ll be voting for Jill on November 8; I hope you will, too.

(Did you know people tell us George Gallup would predict local political races here in Princeton?  Supposedly he would playfully challenge his neighbors to wheel barrel rides!  If his prediction was correct, the legend is they would give him a ride .... if he got it wrong, he had to haul the winners around.  WE HOPE IT'S TRUE!)

Princeton Nassoons vs. Yale Whiffenpoofs ......

I'm dying to see what crazy person signs up to be called a Whiffenpoof ...

Why not Whiffenpuff?
