Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

While You Guys Were Relazing at the Memorial Day Parade and Enjoying Reunions....

I was being put to work by the Princeton Black Squirrel gang!

(Here's Steve O and Rob being interviewed by Emily Reeves from Town Topics so be on the lookout on Wednesday!  I can't wait to see Steve O in that gangsta hat!)

(See?  Here I am being stylist to the STARS before the big interview!)

Our insiders say there is going to be a Princeton Black Squirrel photo shoot on Tuesday in downtown Princeton!

Be on the lookout for some Princeton Greats to help put Princeton's town-gown mascot on the map!

(If you want your own swag, head to Luxaby Baby & Child in Palmer Square - across from Lindt chocolate - under Brooke Shields apartment - down from bent spoon)

Late addition to this post:  This is a shot of the Town Topics Talk of the Town:

The Question of the Week was:  "With the recent beaver episode on everyone's minds, we wondered about other experiences people have had with Princeton wildlife.  Tell us yours."

Steve O:  "A black squirrel smiled at me yesterday."

Rob:  "A black squirrel winked at me - a little town spirit."

SO CUTE!

I Gotta Think This is How Andrew Shue Got Started ....

Here he is ROCKING the short sleeve tee made from 100% cotton.

Want one this weekend?  Head to Luxaby Baby & Child in Palmer Square to pick up a tee, decal or mug!

(They also have adult sizes and, yes, until this young man gets sick of it, he'll always be an official male model of Princeton Black Squirrel!)

(We can't verify this yet, but we think this is how Ethan Hawke and John Lithgow got started too ......)

Today Only FOREVER Ago .... Well It's Too Good To Be True!

Usually, my TODAY ONLY FOREVER AGO posts take a cool person, place or thing and link it back to Princeton so you have an I KNOW moment.

Here you go::

TODAY ONLY FOREVER AGO:

STAR WARS, the movie, opened

(Harrison Ford DID visit Princeton, ALMOST bought a house and, yes, the family that inspired the movie lived in Princeton  TRUE! )

Babe Ruth hit his last home run

(Ruth Cleveland, the daughter of Grover Cleveland is buried in Princeton and the namesake for the famous candy bar!  TRUE!  It's hotly debated but most history books say Ruth is the namesake.)

JFK asked Congress to support the space program

(JFK attended Princeton and when Pete Conrad walked on the moon, he took an American flag and a Princeton University flag! He got in TONS of trouble with NASA.   TRUE!)

A dude was buried in his Corvette!

(I have no idea if he has a connection to Princeton but it's enough for me because having yourself buried in a car is SO FLIPPIN' ORIGINAL he should have been given an honorary degree from Princeton!)

(I know, you're an original source kinda town so here you go!:

Skinny Girl Margarita's Got NOTHING on This Idea!

PRINCETON'S MOST CHERISHED HAIR DRESSER HAS HIS OWN PRODUCT LINE!

I KNOW!

(I would LOVE to have my name in lights but, since it can't be me, I'd want it to be Godfrey!)

I am SO PROUD to count myself among some of Godfrey's first clients in Princeton.  His business is a perfect example of how small businesses can thrive in Princeton.

Go inside his store on Witherspoon Street across from small world coffee and get some of his genius products!

Like Godfrey, the products are high quality, stylish and super sleek!

Model in Princeton Gets RAVE Reviews!

The proposed Arts & Transit Neighborhood was on display at the Princeton Public Library Farmer's Market this week!

If approved, the new neighborhood will create a vibrant re-vitalization to the McCarter Theater area!

(I wasn't here before the library was built but you have to admit, it was a smart move to get it done!  I just know our elected officials will vote yes to give our town more jobs, more planned green space, more parking, an indoor train station and more!)

I Got My First Tattoo!

Here I am with Princeton's up and coming  tattoo professional.  I didn't catch his name but he really was gentle with the sponge application.  In case he needs a reference for Angelina Jolie, he can just share this link.

Photo'd here with Jay, who picked out my tattoo!  I wanted one on the small of my back but Jay convinced me that a tattoo above the neck shows WAY more commitment!    Jay might be one of the most hysterical people I've ever met.  I laugh BEFORE he says anything because I KNOW it's going to be funny.  Insiders say he's writing a play.

Where the heck were we getting tattoos in Princeton?  The Princeton University Art Museum Family Day silly!  Families enjoyed music, scavenger hunts, free pizza and live entertainment.  The PU Art Museum is open 52 weeks a year, FREE and even stays open late on Thursday nights!

Going to Princeton Art Museum makes you want to BE CREATIVE,  TAKE RISKS  and FEEL COOLER than ever!

This artsy family says the Louvre's got NOTHING on Princeton Art Museum!

(No really, if you are in the art world, you recognize them already!  They cannot believe this museum is free and visitors can see collections of works by Degas, Monet, Wharhol with NO LINES!)

Today, Well, Actually Yesterday, I WON an Olympic Gold Medal! TRUE!

Here I am winning the OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL IN A SPONTANEOUS ARM WRESTLING COMPETITION!

Winning the Olympic Gold wasn’t that tough for me ....

Anyhoo,

You can see here, the real Olympic athlete handled the defeat like a complete pro!

Here's how I won my first gold:

So I went to Godfrey Fitzgerald Hair Salon for my grooming session.

Y’all know, my groomings at Godfrey’s never fail to disappoint:

In the chair beside me was Susan Francia.  The 2008 Women’s Rowing Olympic Gold Winner!  I KNOW!

After I played it WAY COOL (and pretended not to listen in on her every word) it became clear that Susan Francia is, well, WAY COOL!

Here’s why I think Susan Francia is WAY COOL:

She still seems thrilled she won the Gold Medal ….

She’s funny ….. like quick funny, not just funny-funny

She’s smart ….. like street smart, not just book smart

She’s gorgeous ….. SO GORGEOUS SHE RECENTLY POSED NUDE and in between the shots she didn’t wear the robe.

I take my shower IN my robe for God’s sakes!

AND

You didn’t hear this from me but it’s true,

She confessed to eating 5,000 calories in a single day.

You’re not drunk …. You read that right,

She confessed to eating 5,000 calories in a single day.

One more thing ..... wait for it ..... it's worth it ....

She proudly states she is the great grandaughter of Woodrow "Woody" Wilson!  I KNOW!  Just when you thought the tour lady couldn't get luckier! (Our full time group of researchers couldn't confirm or deny the geneology on that but she's a Gold Medalist for God's sakes, we're taking her word for it!)

Want to know more about this world class neighbor training for the next Olympics?  Here you go:  http://www.susanfrancia.com/file/Home.html

Here's Some Dirt from the Princeton Derby Party I Attended on Saturday Night!

So I got invited to an awesome neighborhood Derby Party.   The guest list was a perfect blend of our town and our gown. My readers know, I was there to learn as much as I could about the guests!  Here's what I got:

One Princeton Townie is the father of Buddy Miller!  I KNOW!

(Buddy Miller is that famous country music star and I am a HUGE fan!  Bernie Miller was the Princeton Township Mayor.  He and his wife couldn't be more fun to get to know!)

One Princeton Gownie lived off of Cheez-Whiz and Prego for an entire weekend.

(She's also admitted to being a HUGE Nascar fan.  Yes, I clued her into the fact that Bisquick has Nascar wives' recipes on the back of the box.   See?  MORE PROOF I can mingle with Ivy Leaguers!)

One Princeton Townie/Gownie is a champion dancer.

(He's also a world class architect.   During the Derby he gave me the secret to success!  No really, he did.  Prepare for an major upswing in the appearance of visitors to Princeton!)

The event convinced me even more that our Town & Gown has a wonderful overlap of personalities and passions!

Here I am pictured with Bernie Miller, the daddy of one of the most talented country music performers on earth!  I KNOW!

THIS JUST IN .... Princeton University Has Studied the Sexiness of George Clooney for over a Decade!

TRUE!

Princeton University geneticist, Dr. Janet Hargrove, has studied the sexiness of George for over a decade!:

"The subject's masculine yet disarmingly friendly features, from what we have been able to determine, do not appear to be constricted by the laws of physics," said Princeton University geneticist Dr. Janet Hargrove, whose exhaustive, decade-long study of Clooney's appearance concluded that the 46-year-old has only gotten better-looking with time. "From his modest beginnings as George Burnett, the long-haired repairman on the 1980s sitcom The Facts of Life, onward through his sexy ascent to Hollywood leading man, his facial features have defied the Second Law of Thermodynamics by being impervious to entropy."

Need the, ahem, original source?  Here you go:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE CLOONEY!

Ever Wonder Where I Get My Info?

I interview long time residents who connect alotta dots for me about our town and gown.

Here, with Steve O, is Helene.  She personifies the elegance and grace many find so charming in Princeton residents.
You can see here, Steve O is definitely her biggest fan!

Prior to this dinner, she wrote me a one Act play!  She still reads Latin and can quote Shakespeare like something out of a movie.  If you dream of being memorable, you might want to meet Helene for inspiration!

"One Small Step for A Man, One Giant Leap for Mankind"

said Neil Armstrong in 1969 after landing on the moon.

That quote was all I could think after attending the Borough Council Meeting last night.

For me, the unanimous vote is a small step in what I hope will be an invigorated, collegial leap toward viewing Princeton University as not only the largest employer in town but also a priceless catalyst for sustained economic growth through tourism.
