Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALAN ALDA! (Frankly, we're more interested in THIS character from M*A*S*H!!!!)

That's right, Wayne Rogers was the son of a Rhodes scholar and attended Princeton Univeristy!  He was a BIG DEAL with Triangle productions but had no intention of becoming a super star.

Instead, he moved to NYC and tried to learn world banking.  Peter Falk was his roomate and that's when he decided to do a little acting again and eventually landed with M*A*S*H!

I LOVE THIS STUFF!

(Alan Alda gets a lotta love for being a Renaissance guy but, dig into the history books and you'll see Wayne Rogers gives him a run for his money!)

TMZ is Headed to Princeton? Yep!

Well, kind of ...... !

Did you know TMZ stands for the thirty-mile zone in LA?  TRUE!

(It's a thirty-mile radius which is considered "local" - t's called "Studio Zone" and the papparazzi are allowed to approach artists without invitation.)

I think Princeton is a two-mile zone which is considered the "heart of Princeton".  Joy and I call it the "Genius Zone" and we plan to celebrate every inch of it during this year's Pi Day Princeton festivities!

(Don't worry, we would never stalk the academic celebrities in town but you'll be shocked how many show up for the fun!)

Did you hear we're going to BREAK a world record?

Did you hear there will be LIVE coverage of the M'Athlete contest?

Did you hear there is an adult that can recite Pi to over 7,000 digits?

Did you hear there will be LIVE entertainment at the No Sock Sock Hop?

Did you hear RESIDENTS will be picking the top pie this year?

Did you hear there will be a red carpet for best geek fashion?

Did you hear there will be FREE trolley tours through Einstein's neighborhood?

Did you hear my mom will be BACK as Einstein's mother and some of my best friends will be acting out other MAJOR characters in Einstein's life?

It's all TRUE and if you want up to the minute, event info,  here you go?

Today, Only FOREVER Ago, a King Was Born!

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Elvis!

Did you know Jeremy Roller ’95 and Brian Policano ’95 loved Elvis so much, they started PElvis “a group of Princeton students dedicated to spreading the magic of the King”?  TRUE!

In its heyday, PElvis had a “couple hundred members” who paid $5 each to join and got to enjoy Elvis movies, fried peanut butter and banana sammies and a few brews.

(These guys were pretty serious about loving the King - one visited Graceland more than once and, the other, dressed up in a silk suit for a Tiger game!)

The group publically claims it no longer exists but that can't be true because I just got invited by a group of PElvis fans who are planning an "event" this evening!   I KNOW!

Here's the founders with Elvis many years ago.

If you want to celebrate from home, here's my secret recipe for fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 to 3 ripe bananas
  • 8 slices white bread

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Directions

In a frying pan, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter. Make sure butter does not burn. In a small bowl mix together the peanut butter, honey and cinnamon. Slice the bananas into 1/4-inch thick slices. Spread the mixture on 4 slices of bread and cover with banana slices. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread. Spread the remaining butter on both sides of the sandwiches. Grill the sandwiches until each side is golden brown.

For topping, combine sugar and cinnamon in shallow plate. Coat the grilled sandwiches with the mixture. Cut diagonally and serve hot.

Not an Elvis fan?  Then celebrate the anniversay of expanded suffrage in the US -  Today, in 1867, Congress enacted the first law in American history that granted African-American men the right to vote!  I KNOW!

IT'S OFFICIAL. I'M GOD'S FAVORITE FOR SURE!

(Well, maybe not, because I still can't remember how to adjust photos in this blog ....)

ANYHOO ....

Beginning April 7th,  Princeton Tour Company will be starting tours INSIDE the Princeton Univeristy U-Store!  I KNOW!  I get to have a big 'ol sign in their Nassau Street window promoting the tours, tickets will be sold there AND the tour information will be on their website and print ads .... even at every Princeton athletic event!

What do the Landaus think about this?  They love it because the U-Store agreed to stop carrying Einstein items to help distinguish their brand and promote their Einstein Museum.  I KNOW!

(BTW, I'm not really God's favorite but I think merchant collaboration and teamwork like this definitely puts us in the plus column upstairs!!  If you're looking to move a business to Princeton, it's a great place to count on collaboration and creativity!)

REALLY? The REAL Indiana Jones is from Princeton ??????

Yep, Indiana Jones is from Princeton ... well, maybe we should say he was from Princeton.  Anyhoo,

It's a fascinating story and epitomizes the relationship of Princeton University with the professors and students.

We've shut down public tours until April which allows us time to interview, research and get excited about our spring schedule.  Today, the owner and staffers spent the entire day making sure that the claim that Indy was born and raised in Princeton was true.  It's not only true, there's more.

(Did you know one of Indy's trips resulted in a treasured piece inside the Princeton University Art Museum?  TRUE!  In the spring, we'll tell you where it is and why it's so important to the collection of priceless items!)

(Private tours are available on a limited basis during our hiatus -

because some people can't wait to explore Princeton!)

Did You Know We Gush About Princeton FOR FREE?

It's TRUE!

Why would a top rated tour business in the northeast decide charging for referrals doesn't make sense?

It's not that hard to understand!  If we were paid to promote certain merchants, we couldn't give authentic referrals!  When our customers take a tour, they know we give customized recommendations based on budgets, desired atmosphere and quality!)

Pictured here is my hubby and son with some fun friends.  We spent part of New Years at PJ's Pancake House which has always been known for its pancakes.  They recently UPPED their evening game and added an unbelievable selection of pastas to the menu.  (Plus, it's BYOB which will save you a few shells in Princeton for sure!)

If you haven't tried the new pasta menu at PJ's you need to trust us and give it a whirl.  Our fave is ANYTHING with the Sunday sauce on it.
