Princeton WannaBe Blog
I'm not a real historian. I didn't grow up in Princeton. I don't have an Ivy League education.
I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.
Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!
LAWRENTIANS LAND NEAR PRINCETON! LAWRENTIANS LAND NEAR PRINCETON! THANK GOD!

Students at The Lawrenceville School call themselves Lawrentians, which I LOVE!
Anyway, learning that made me do a little research on this school which consistently ranks in the Top 5 schools on earth:
Why are Lawrentians so smart? Lawrentians sit around a large, oval table, invented by Edmond Harkness. (In the 1840's, Edmond's dad went West to Cleveland and as a harness maker. All that frontier made him a decent whiskey maker too. Anyhoo, he ran so much booze that he was able to own in over 13 percent of Standard and Oil! Sound like he'd raise a jerk for a son? Think again .......)
Who thought of THAT Genius Idea?: Well, Edmond inherited all the cash and spent his whole life giving it away to improve the planet. In 1934, Edmond gave 5 million dollars to find a different way to teach which created "The Harkness Method".
What's the Harkness Method? It's a Socratic teaching style around an oval table where 12 students and 1 professor can DISCUSS issues and banter about the big picture, rather than memorize facts. The professor's seat is called the 13th chair! I KNOW!
Count on more posts about this worldclass school a mere bike ride from the downtown Princeton!
