Princeton WannaBe Blog

I'm not a real historian.   I didn't grow up in Princeton.    I don't have an Ivy League education.

I'm a total Princeton WannaBe.

Still, I gush about loving the heart of Princeton as much as I can!

"So You're Telling Me, The Princeton Mascot Was a Party Crasher?"

BILL:  "Mimi, it's an incredible story. The first person to wear the tiger suit, was a member of the Class of '39 undergraduate by the name of Fred Fox.  A stroke of genius that he dreamed up, he dressed up like a tiger to get into football games without buying a ticket!"

ME:  "So you mean Fred Fox sneaked into games  wearing a Tiger costume and that's how the University got a mascot?  (This is not Fred in the photo - I just thought it painted a picture ...)

BILL:  "You got it."

ME:  "Bill, no one is going to believe that!"

BILL:  "When I take customers through the chapel, I'll show the non-believers the memorial to Fred Fox '39 to the right of the alter."

ME:  "I cannot believe the first Princeton Tiger was a party crasher and he's memorialized in the chapel"

BILL:  "Yep, near the battle flag from the USS Princeton.  Did you know that flag was presented by the Secretary of Defense?  He was another alum ....... great story there too.  That's usually the spot I tell customers about how the Tiger costume was designed by the famous CATS costume designer ....."

ME:  (speechless)

Bill is a new tour guide with Princeton Tour Company.  Like me, he's not a real historian, didn't grow up in Princeton or go to an Ivy League school.  He made Princeton his home several years ago, has taken numerous classes and, like me, he's strangely possessed by all things Princeton!

(Just when you thought the tour lady couldn't get luckier, right?)
