Princeton Pi Day is an Annual Event!

03/11/2010

The first annual Princeton Pi Day was a HUGE success! Einstein was born on March 14th...3.14...get it? Pi! The entire downtown of Princeton celebrates with pie judging contests, Pi recitation celebrations, Einstein Look A Like contests - the works! Whether you're an unapologetic geek or a Geek Wannabe (like us) we guarantee you'll have a great time!

The day started at Princeton Public Library

At 1:00pm meet at Dispensa, the Library Cafe, for a Pie judging contest.  Yes, both Mayors are judging along with Leslie Burger, the Director of the Library - it's Pi Day, silly!

Afterwards, go to the 2nd floor for the Pi Recitation -sponsored by Princeton Universtiy!

At 1:59pm (the next three numbers in Pi) the Plasma Physics Lab will be in the Community Room for fun science experiments for the whole family!

At 3:14pm head to Palmer Square Green for the Pie Throwing event! Bring you own victim OR take it out on one of our targets. On the Green, PNC Bank & McCaffrey's are generously sponsoring the  event - PNC with the staff and the singing of Happy Birthday and McCaffrey's with the birthday cake for the town to share!

At 4:45pm head back to Princeton Public Library for the Look A Like Winner Announcement!  Sponsored by lillipies!  (The winner gets a 3 dimensional cake that looks like Einstein!)

What about the tours?

Here you go: tours run from 1:59pm - 5:00pm.  When you pick up your ticket (or pay the same day), you will get a general map with the location of the FIRST re-enactor.   The first is Einstein's mother ..... man, what a tough mom!  Anyway, after about 4 minutes of listening about him as a child, she'll circle your map for the NEXT re-enactor ...... don't be surprised if she takes her time ...... she HATED the second major character in Einstein's life .... and so on.  We have 6 delightful (extremely amateur) re-enactors to chronologically introduce you to Albert Einstein!

Our hope is that you meander from re-enactor to re-enactor ...... if you see the darling logo for Pi Day in a shopowners' store .... created by joycards on Chambers Street ..... you know a special Pi price is inside ...... or an Einstein .......

This is our first year so be flexible and come ready to say "I went to the FIRST Princeton Pi Day back in 2010!"

Wanna be an Einstein?  Just show up lookin' your best!  Register for the contest at the ticket counter.  (It's free to compete and you win a 3 dimensional Einstein cake by lillipies.com)

Wanna be in the Pi Recitation?  Just show up!

Wanna throw a Pie?  I think you're getting this, just show up?  $1 a throw to benefit the Princeton Public Library .... if you don't have the buck, PNC Bank is generously sponsoring the event and will cover you for the day!

Wanna donate a Pie for the Pie Judging?  Sorry, contestants are closed now - we have Chez Alice, Little Bakery Chef, Witherspoon Bread Company, Main Street, bon appetit, woodenspooncatering, ladybugluggage, Olives and Whole Earth.  It's a "gloves off" competition!  Wonder who will win?

There are over 60 shopkeepers and merchants participating in the day!  It's too long to list here - most are within downtown Princeton but many are at the Princeton Shopping Center too!  McCaffrey's has a whole day of events!

Merchants and shopkeepers who want to get involved, contact joy@joycards.com and she'll get you set up with pins/door banners and  the works!

Thank you to PNC Bank, McCaffrey's, Princeton University, Dispensa Cafe, lillipies bakery, joycards on Chambers Street & Princeton Public Library for throwing a Genius Birthday Party for Princeton's most lovable genius!

By the way, if you love the logo, then you love Joy at joycards on Chambers Street !
